The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said Wednesday its Freight Transportation Services Index fell 0.4 percent in May from its April level after two consecutive monthly increases. The index, which measures freight shipments by weight and distance carried, has risen 4.4 percent over the last year. May is the most recent month for which results are available.
