Feb. 27--PORTLAND, Maine -- Starbucks has leased space in Portland to open its third coffee shop in the city's downtown area.
The Seattle-based coffee company is opening a store at 145 Commercial St., which is the Evie Cianchette building, according to Katie Allen, an associate broker at NAI The Dunham Group who helped broker the deal on behalf of the landlord, Fleming Portland LLC.
The lease was signed at the beginning of February, and construction on the 2,000-square-foot space has already begun, Allen said. The company plans to open the store by mid-April, she said.
Starbucks' other two locations in downtown Portland are 594 Congress St., across the street from the Portland Museum of Art, and 176 Middle St., at the corner of Middle and Exchange streets.
Starbucks in December announced plans to add 1,500 stores in the U.S. market during the next five years.
However, the Portland store appears to be last stop for the company's expansion in Maine.
"At this time, we have no further plans to announce for expansion in Maine," a Starbucks representative told the Bangor Daily News on Wednesday.
