Sept. 26--AT&T said it will nearly double its Internet speeds for residential and commercial customers in Wichita with the launch Sunday of a new service.
Called AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet Power, the service will offer download speeds up to 45 megabits per second and upload speeds of up to 6 megabits per second, the company said in a news release.
AT&T Kansas spokesman Chris Lester said the new service is part of the company's broader Project Velocity IP, a three-year plan to upgrade the broadband network. Sixteen other cities in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas will also be able to get the service on Sunday.
Current U-verse customers would have to upgrade to get the faster Internet service.
