Sept. 28--BB&T Corp., with $182.7 billion in total assets, remained the 12th largest U.S. bank, according to a quarterly report issued this week by SNL Financial LLC.
BB&T's total assets were up $1.9 billion from the previous report on June 3.
BB&T leads SunTrust Banks Inc. by $11.2 billion.
However, it may take BB&T a while to crack the top 10 in total assets since 10th-place TD Bank US Holding Co. has $228.9 billion and 11th-place State Street Corp. has $227.3 billion.
BB&T has $131.1 billion in total deposits, while TD Bank has $190.2 billion, State Street has $166.5 billion and SunTrust has $127.6 billion.
JPMorgan Chase & Co., which had about a $40 billion increase to $2.44 trillion, stayed at the top of the list for total assets. Bank of America Corp. is second at $2.12 trillion, down $50 billion. Citigroup Inc. is third at $1.88 trillion, essentially unchanged, followed by Wells Fargo & Co. at $1.44 trillion, also essentially unchanged.
Among other banks with North Carolina ties, PNC Financial Services Group Inc. remained eighth at $304.4 billion. Fifth Third Bancorp moved up two spots to 18th at $123.4 billion. First Horizon National Corp. dropped one spot 45th at $25.1 billion.
