Oct. 23--CHAMPAIGN _ The Carmike 13 theater complex has set its grand opening for Oct. 31.
The complex _ built at 910 Meijer Drive, C, on the site of the old Beverly 18 _ will feature a "BigD" large-format auditorium where 2-D and 3-D movies will be shown on a screen three stories tall and 81 feet wide.
That auditorium will seat nearly 600 people, according to a release from Columbus, Ga.-based Carmike Cinemas.
All 13 auditoriums will have stadium seating and high-back rocking seats and will have a collective seating capacity of more than 2,800.
Carmike Cinemas will host a pre-opening-night charity event at 7 p.m. Oct. 30, with proceeds to benefit the United Way of Champaign County. Movie tickets, popcorn and fountain drinks will be available for $2 each that night.
The Beverly 18 closed in mid-February to make way for the new complex.

Lower natural-gas prices expected
COLLINSVILLE _ Ameren Illinois is projecting that natural-gas prices this winter will be lower than they were last winter.
The utility said it expects gas-supply prices this heating season to average between 53 and 55 cents per therm.
That would be about 5 percent less than last winter, when Ameren Illinois customers paid an average of 57 cents per therm.
Some customers could still have higher overall bills this year, the utility said. Last winter, residential customers used less gas than usual as a result of higher-than-normal temperatures.
