Oct. 29--Susan Bryan and her daughters, Brooke Bryan and Jordan Bryan Knott, have opened The White Bunny Boutique, located in the former location of Lydia's Boutique. Susan Bryan said that the name of the store came from one of her daughters who rescued two white rabbits.
This is the trio's first foray into a retail business, although the senior Bryan has experience working with children. She was a partial owner of Tumble Tots, a day care and children's gym, and has also worked as a preschool teacher at Davidson Academy.
"We have always worked well as a family, and we all love children," Bryan said.
Bryan is a Lexington native who said she knew she was in the right place to start the business at first sight.
"The property was posted for sale on Facebook," Bryan said. "I fell in love with the place as soon as I walked in. I'm a 'go with your guts' kind of person, and it just felt right."
Another bonus for Bryan is that the previous owner, Erika Cross of Lydia's Boutique, had a similar shop and had already built up a customer base.
"We are hoping to build on the customers Lydia already had and expand a little," Bryan said. "We are getting lots of great feedback from customers."
She said they have had requests to carry brands for older children as well as for sturdy clothing for boys. The store carries brands such as Mud Pie, RuffleButts, RuggedButts, Royal Child, Natural Life, Squeaky Shoes and Sophie the Giraffe.
"We want to meet the boutique reputation with fine clothing but also to have well-wearing clothing," Bryan said.
Bryan said that she and her daughters have had nothing but encouragement from other business owners in the area.
"I feel like we have found a new family," Bryan said. "This block is its own little community. We are honored to be included in the uptown Lexington business district."
The White Bunny held its grand opening Oct. 23, which coincidentally was the day of Prince George's christening. Bryan thinks that was an omen, considering her son-in-law is from Wales.
"I took it as a good sign," Bryan said.
The White Bunny Boutique is at 104 S. Main St. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Email contact is email@example.com.
