Arkansas Lamp Name Change Comes With LED Lighting [Times Record, Fort Smith, Ark. :: ]

June 20--Arkansas Lamp, a Van Buren manufacturer of commercial lighting fixtures that has begun to feature high-efficient LED lights, is changing its name to Arkansas Lighting.

Company president Jeff Null said Thursday he has signed off on the business package for Arkansas Lamp to do business as Arkansas Lighting, and a new website is in the works with the domain name ArkansasLighting.com. Web traffic for ArkansasLamp.com will be redirected to the new site.

"In the lighting manufacturing industry, the word 'lamp' means 'bulb,' and at a recent trade show we had many people ask us what bulbs we make," Null said. "We do a lot of stuff, but we do not manufacture bulbs."

Arkansas Lamp Manufacturing is a family-owned business founded in 1972 that primarily sells lamps to the hospitality industry. Best Western, Carlson, Choice, Hilton and AmericInn hotels are its largest clients. The U.S. government is also a preferred customer.

Cree Inc., a North Carolina company whose lights were recently used on the east span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, makes the LED lights used by Arkansas Lighting. Last month in Las Vegas at Light Fair, an industry trade show, then-Arkansas Lamp debuted a new line of LED ceiling lamps and wall sconces that all have Energy Star certification.

Greg Null, vice president of Arkansas Lighting, noted in a recent news release that lighting is one of the main expenses that commercial building owners have to manage. LED lights consume about 80 percent less energy than incandescent equivalents and about 40 percent less than fluorescent fixtures. LED lights also last 25 times longer, Jeff Null added, and is a higher-quality light that brightens areas better.

Being digital, data can be transmitted through LED lights and "Li-fi" is an emerging technology that will use LED lights to provide low-cost wireless Internet connectivity.
