June 20--ODENTON -- Last Mile Logistics celebrated its move from Columbia to west county with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday.
The company, which employs 55 at 1710 Midway Road, provides full-service trucking, warehousing and other services. Last Mile's clients include Bed Bath Beyond, Amazon and Party City.
"Our decision was influenced because of the access to highways to Baltimore. It's just a good traffic corridor," said managing partner Don Hill.
"The building was more ideal," said Hill. "It was bigger and also in a location where it wasn't as close to residential as our building in Howard County. We had some issues with noise complaints."
Although the company has facilities in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, only the distribution center will operate in Odenton for now.
"Our corporate offices are in Frederick, Maryland, and our lease is up there in a year," said Hill. "We would consider moving our corporate offices also."
There are no positions currently available but Hill expects the move will allow Last Mile Logistics to grow.
"Because of the noise violations we were limited in putting on night shifts in Howard county and in the future, as our business grows, we plan to do that."
