The chicken chain founded in New Orleans has signed a lease to have an eatery at 1045 Mt. Rose Ave. in Spring Garden Township.
Pending township approvals, Popeyes is expected to open early next year, said Adam Hagerman, a commercial Realtor with Bennet Williams.
Several years ago, a Popeyes operated at 720 Loucks Road in York City -- the space now occupied by Five Guys.
The new restaurant will be part of Mt. Rose Plaza, a shopping center anchored by Dunkin' Donuts, Family Dollar, Pizza Hut and Save-a-Lot.
Popeyes is renovating a 2,808-square-foot site formerly occupied by a bank, Hagerman said.
Calls to a Popeyes spokesman were not immediately returned.
The restaurant chain in 1993 was acquired by AFC Enterprises and is now based in Atlanta.
Popeyes operates 2,248 restaurants worldwide, according to the company website.
Its New Orleans-style menu includes spicy chicken, fried shrimp, crawfish, jambalaya, red beans and rice and other chicken, seafood and dishes authentic to the Gulf Coast region.
Until the York County restaurant opens, the closest Popeyes locations are in Harrisburg and Baltimore.
