New North Myrtle Beach shopping center adds 12 stores to its lineup, businesses to start opening in September [The Sun News (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) :: ]

July 24--Chipotle Mexican Grill, Dickey's Barbecue Pit and Which Wich are among the restaurants that will be part of a new shopping center in North Myrtle Beach, with the center's first stores expected to open in September.

North Myrtle Beach announced another dozen stores and restaurants Wednesday that will open in the Coastal North Town Center, which has been under construction since October.

City spokesman Pat Dowling said the new stores at Coastal North Town Center include Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, the first location on the Grand Strand, as well as Dickey's Barbecue Pit, Which Wich Superior Sandwiches and Chipotle Mexican Grill, all of which have only one other location nearby.

Construction began in October on Coastal North, which is being built at the former Robbers Roost Golf Course. The course sat vacant since it closed in 2003 and the new shopping center was announced last fall.

Other stores announced Wednesday include: Super Cuts, Lee Nails, Coastal North Vision Center, McAlister's Deli, Mattress Firm, Heartland Dental, Fashion Boutique and Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n' Biscuits.

Coastal North developer Phil Wilson of RealtyLink said many of the anchor stores announced last fall will open from mid-September to early-October.

He said the first wave of stores opening, beginning Sept. 10, include Dick's Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx, PetSmart, Rack Room Shoes, Ulta, Versona Accessories and the Grand Strand's first Hobby Lobby.

"I think Publix [Super Market] is planning to open in November," he said. "And Ross [Dress for Less] isn't opening in the first wave."

The Publix will be one of the first two on the Grand Strand. The other one is expected to open in Pawleys Island Plaza at U.S. 17 and Petigru Drive in 2015.

The 348,000-square-foot Coastal North is expected to have 10 restaurants. City manager Mike Mahaney has said restaurants such as Red Lobster and what would be the Grand Strand's first Panera Bread had expressed interest in opening at Coastal North, but Dowling said Wednesday that he didn't have an update on those restaurants. Wilson said some storefronts still are available in the center.

Wilson said there are four or five buildings that still need to be built and expects the shopping center to be complete by next spring.
