July 24--CHAMBERSBURG -- BJ's Wholesale Club plans to open in Chambersburg in less than two months.
A spokesperson for the company said the store at 540 Gateway Ave. is scheduled to open mid-September.
As construction progresses on the shopping center that BJ's will anchor, the company has opened a membership information center in the nearby Gateway Shopping Center.
The new BJ's Wholesale Club location will create 103 new positions. A company spokesperson said at this point nearly all of the positions are filled after the company wrapped up its employment open house two weeks ago.
Those interesting in applying for available jobs can apply by visiting BJs.com and clicking on "Careers."
The Chambersburg location will offer a gas station offering diesel fuel, a tire center, a propane center, a Verizon kiosk, food court and optical department.
Headquartered in Massachusetts, BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. is an operator of warehouse clubs on the East Coast and carries brand-name and private-label food and general merchandise.
Similar to Sam's Club and Costco, the company has about 200 locations in 15 states, with the nearest locations in Camp Hill and York. BJ's employs about 25,000 people, according to its website.
In Chambersburg, the store would anchor a new shopping center on a 20-acre site between Bruster's Ice Cream and the Jennings auto dealership.
Chambersburg Borough had approved plans for a shopping center there in 2008, but at the time, the plans did not identify any tenants.
The store itself would be about 88,000 square feet, slightly larger than the nearby Giant at Chambersburg Crossing Shopping Center, but smaller than
