Gov. Rick Perry: New Charles Schwab facility to bring 445 jobs to El Paso [El Paso Times, Texas :: ]

July 24--Texas Governor Rick Perry announced today the opening of a new Charles Schwab Corporation operations center in El Paso that will bring more than 440 jobs to the area.

"Texas has focused on creating an economic climate that grows all industries, from high tech to energy to financial services, through our combination of low taxes, smart regulations, fair courts and skilled workforce," Gov. Perry said in a statement. "These TEF investments in Schwab are the latest in a long line of expansions in El Paso and Austin that will create hundreds of jobs and opportunity for Texans."

Two Texas Enterprise Fund investments into the Charles Schwab Corporation will help bring the operations center to El Paso and strengthen the company's presence in Austin, Perry said.

The TEF investments are projected to bring more than 1,200 jobs and $230 million in capital investments to Texas, he said.

El Paso is projected to get about 445 jobs and more than $21.5 million in capital investments over the next 10 years. More than $1.45 million of TEF investments will be used to open the operations center in El Paso, Perry said.

"We are very pleased to be expanding our footprint in Texas," said Joseph Martinetto, executive vice president and chief financial officer at the Charles Schwab Corporation, in a statement. "We've already started the process of recruiting new talent, and we're excited to become a part of the El Paso community, as we have in Austin where we already have approximately 1,000 employees."

With the opening of the center, El Paso will become one of the largest cities with employees working for Charles Schwab Corporation, joining corporate headquarters San Francisco, Denver, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Chicago, Orlando and Austin.

"I want to welcome The Charles Schwab Corporation to their new home here in El Paso. The City and all of our partners are committed to ensuring the success of our newest corporate partner," El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser said in a statement. "I would like to personally thank the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Charles Schwab, and the company President and CEO, Mr. Walter Bettinger, for their trust in our community and for their willingness to expand their company within our community. Today's announcement of 445 jobs is proof that El Paso is open for business and our community is ready to be a part of the Charles Schwab family."

No date was announced on when the operations center in El Paso is expected to open.
