BRIEF: State, county dangle incentives for manufacturing expansion [Orlando Sentinel :: ]

July 29--Orange County Commissioners voted this morning to approve financial incentives meant to entice a company that makes automotive DVD and GPS systems to expand here.

Voxx International Corp. would build a $17 million, 125,000-square-foot facility to manufacture DVD headrest systems and GPS attennas. The company currently partners with BMW, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Hyundai, KIA, Mazda, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Toyota and others.

The expansion would create about 134 jobs with an average salary of at least $65,559. Those jobs would be in engineering, management, production, program management, customer service and administration, according to county records.

If the company moves forward, it would be eligible for $1.36 million in financial incentives from two economic development programs. Of that, the county agreed to pay $437,200, the local share.
