Annual auto summit at Rhodes State includes speakers, tours [The Lima News, Ohio :: ]

Aug. 14--LIMA -- The annual Regional Auto Growth Summit may include U.S .Sen. Rob Portman, along with Bernard Swiecki and Bill Dirksen.

"We have some high-powered speakers as they pertain to the automotive industry," said Doug Durliat, West Central Ohio Manufacturing Consortium director at Rhodes State College.

Portman will be able to give attendees insight because of his role in the new Senate Auto Caucus, according to Durliat.

Swiecki, from the CAR Automotive Communites Program, will offer those present knowledge about current trends in the automotive world, Durliat said at Mayor David Berger's news conference Wednesday, such as projected sales and what cars are leading the sales.

Based on his knowledge as vice president for labor relations with Ford Motor Co., Dirksen will give a labor perspective, Durliat said, and discuss where the auto workforce is now, where it has been, and where it is going.

The Summit will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in the new multipurpose room in Keese Hall at Rhodes State College.

For $25, those attending the conference will be able to network, hear the speakers, have lunch, tour the Mitsubishi Electric Training Center and tour Rhodes' upgraded engineering technology labs.

To register, go to http://j.mp/AutoSummit. Registration is due Aug. 22. For information, contact Durliat at 419-995-8353 or at Durliat.D@RhodesState.edu.
