Biz Beat: Time Warner technicians help on AMBER alerts [The Lima News, Ohio :: ]

Aug. 16--LIMA -- Time Warner Cable will offer additional eyes on the street to help look for abducted children.

The company announced last week all of its 18,000 cable technicians around the country, including those out of the Lima office, will receive AMBER Alerts when they are in the area of an active alert. They've also been trained to contact law enforcement if they see a missing child.

"Thanks to the training and technology that our technicians receive as part of our AMBER Alert initiative, we are taking important steps to help the well-being of children in communities we serve every day," Rob Marcus, chairman and CEO of Time Warner Cable, said in a press release.

There are approximately 200 AMBER alerts each year for the most serious child abduction cases, where a child is believed to be in imminent danger.

LIMA -- The sale on Red Lobster, 2150 Harding Highway, Lima, recently closed. The Allen County Recorder's Office marked the transaction at $2.3 million.

The Lima restaurant remodeled in 2012 using a new design popular within the company. It includes an exterior with a stone tower and modern furnishings inside.

COLUMBUS -- The number of new entities filing to do business in Ohio dropped in July compared to last year. There were 6,922 new entity filings, according to Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted. That compares to 7,311 last July.

The state still has more new business filings this year than last year, though. Through the end of July, there were 56,176 new filings, up 947 from the year before.

COLUMBUS -- JobsOhio, the public-private partnership handling economic development for Ohio, reported a good second quarter, noting an increase in projects and new jobs compared to the same time frame last year.

Between April and June, the group handled 75 projects, creating 7,370 and introducing $968 million in capital investment. That's five more projects and 2,936 more new jobs than a year prior. Last year was better for the group's efforts to retain jobs, though, as it helped with a total of 36,647 jobs in second quarter 2013, compared to 24,369 in the second quarter of 2014.
