AK Steel Holding Corp., a supplier to the U.S. auto industry, said Friday that it will hike spot market prices for its carbon steel products, effective Jan. 1. Base prices for hot rolled products will increase by $20 per ton and base prices for cold rolled and coated products will increase by $30 per ton over the company's current spot market prices.

AK Steel Holding Corp. said Monday it will raise base prices for all 200-, 300- and 400-series flat-rolled stainless steel products by 6 percent to 9 percent starting Jan. 3. AK Steel is a supplier to the U.S. auto industry.

AK Steel said today that it will increase base prices for all 200, 300 and 400 series flat rolled stainless steel products by 6% to 9%, depending upon the grade and product form, effective with shipments on January 3, 2010. AK Steel said this increase will be achieved through a reduction in the functional discount of two percentage points for cold rolled and hot rolled products.

Former Carter County Magistrate Jill York will be the Republican candidate in a Dec. 8 special election to fill a vacant state House seat. Republican officials from the 96th House District, which includes Carter and Lewis counties, chose York on Tuesday night as their party's nominee at a meeting at the Carter County Justice Center in Grayson.

After years of taking hits from customers and analysts, Ford dealership owner John Hennessy said it's good to see the Blue Oval return to the black. Hennessy, owner of River Oaks Ford in Calumet City, called it a "pleasant surprise" to hear the news Monday that Ford turned an operating profit last quarter for the first time since early 2008.
