Operating cash flow increased 10.5 percent in the quarter compared with a year ago, as Lee reduced cash operating expenses, excluding unusual items, 25.5 percent.
Combining the resources of two similar publications, Lee Enterprises announced that the Mini Nickel, a free classified publication, will soon have expanded distribution in Helena, while the Adit will cease publication after more than three decades as the city's best-known free advertising paper.

Lee Enterprises has named Randy Kozerski publisher and editor of The Garden Island newspaper, as well as president of Kauai Publishing Co. Kozerski has served as interim publisher since publisher Mark Lewis left the newspaper in September to become publisher of The Journal Times, a Lee Enterprises newspaper in Racine, Wis.
Average daily sales of the North County Times newspaper averaged 68,940 copies last month, 18 percent lower than for the same month a year ago, the company said. Publisher Peter York said that as the economy toughened, readers starting sharing newspapers more.
Fewer people paid to read newspapers in the past six months, including The Press-Enterprise and others in Southern California, according to the most recent report from the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The nation's daily newspapers sold 10.6 percent fewer copies each weekday from April to September compared to the same time a year ago, the Audit Bureau report stated.
