INEED a new work phone bad, and, ordinarily, that wouldn't be good. But a rare display on patience on my part may make it a good thing. My work Treo, a God-awful device that freezes up and needs to be rebooted at least 60 times a month, has been on its last legs for a while, and I've been eligible for an upgrade. The following incidents were reported by the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office and the Kinston Department of Public Safety: On Nov. 18, a man on Ferrell Road, Kinston, reported someone threatened him. On Nov. 19, a woman on Lindsey Lane, La Grange, reported someone twisted her wrist and grabbed her by the face. On Nov. 19, a man in Grifton reported someone fired a gun on his property.

Motorola's Home & Networks division announced Friday its second acquisition this week, buying the iDEN business of a Redmond, Wash.-based technology company. Terms of the deal with RadioFrame Networks were not disclosed.

The former Motorola semiconductor plant site at Broadway and Dobson roads in Mesa continues to attract tenants despite prolonged sluggishness in the local commercial real estate market. St. Paul, Minn.-based Patterson Companies Inc. and San Diego, Calif.-based Life-Care Solutions both have signed leases to occupy space at Broadway 101 Commerce Park.

Motorola Inc. said Friday that it has purchased the base station business of RadioFrame Networks Inc., which uses a technology that allows walkie-talkie features on cell phones. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The technology, called Integrated Digital Enhanced Network, or iDEN, allows cell phone calls to travel on the same network as communication from two-way radios, faxes and pagers.
