VIRGINIA BEACH -- Bernard Madoff raised billions of dollars for his long-running Ponzi scheme from acquaintances in the New York City area and south Florida. Soon after Madoff was arrested in December, journalist Vicky Ward began looking into Fairfield Greenwich, a New York investment advisory firm that channeled more than $7 billion to Madoff.

The people may stay the same, but the names and places where Toledoans can speak to their stockbroker are undergoing a realignment, resulting from the financial turmoil on Wall Street a year ago.

Ownership in some of the Dallas area's most prominent office towers has changed hands. Barclays Capital said Friday that it has acquired control of Fort Worth-based Crescent Real Estate Equities Limited Partnership. Crescent has stakes in 36 office buildings nationwide -- including Dallas' Crescent complex in Uptown and the Trammell Crow Center and Fountain Place towers downtown.

The fallout from the national commercial real estate crisis has hit home. The owner of Greenway Plaza, a prominent decades-old cluster of skyscrapers on the Southwest Freeway, has given the keys back to its lender.

Shares of some top investment banks companies were down at the close of trading: Goldman Sachs fell $2.82 or 1.6 percent, to $170.01. Morgan Stanley fell $.21 or .6 percent, to $32.10.

Shares in the UK's two biggest package holiday operators were among the heaviest blue-chip fallers today after one broker decided that their outlook was far from sunny. Thomas Cook fell 6 3/4p to 211 3/4p, while TUI lost 5p at 250 1/4p after Morgan Stanley dropped its rating on both companies.

Shares of some top investment banks companies are down at noon: Goldman Sachs fell $2.27 or 1.3 percent, to $170.56. Morgan Stanley fell $.09 or .3 percent, to $32.22.
