11/20/09 -- Leading LAN center organization iGames announced today that participating LAN centers in North America will compete in its $2,500 Borderlands Marketing Contest to celebrate their promotional activities for 2K Games' new role-playing shooter, Borderlands.

The video game "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is blasting its way into entertainment history. After hauling in the biggest-ever first-day sales total last week, the game continues break records. Activision Blizzard Inc., which released the game Nov. 10, said the latest game in its "Call of Duty" franchise made $550 million in worldwide sales during its first five days.

After a slight reprieve in September, U.S. video game retail sales slumped again in October, unable to escape the economic turmoil that's cutting into consumer spending and swelling the ranks of unemployed. Market researcher NPD Group said Thursday total sales of video game hardware, software and accessories fell 19 percent in October from the same month last year, to $1.07 billion.
