Portugal Reportedly Sounds Out Spanish Banks On Novo Banco Sale

Banco de Portugal has reportedly begun sounding out Spanish banks on their interest in buying Novo Banco, S.A., several sources familiar with the talks said on Tuesday. Banco Popular Espanol S.A. (CATS:POP) was among those approached by the Bank of Portugal, the sources said. "For now there is no formal sales process, nor is it clear exactly how much of Novo Banco is up for sale, though it's estimated to be about €70 billion worth of assets," one of the sources said, on condition of anonymity. Other potential suitors include Banco Santander, S.A. (CATS:SAN), Banco de Sabadell, S.A. (CATS:SAB), Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. and Banco Portugues De Investimento, S.A.

Banco Popular Espanol S.A. Signs Collaboration Agreement with Alain Afflelou Optical

Banco Popular Espanol, S.A. and Alain Afflelou Optical, have signed a collaboration agreement whereby the bank will provide range of financial products and services to Alain Afflelou optic network. Account credit, lending, leasing, guarantees or account SMEs are some of the products that the bank will offer the best conditions. This agreement will favor the 300 optics ALAIN AFLELOU has in Spain and provides up to 400 outlets in the coming years.

Banco Popular Espanol S.A. Reports Earnings Results for the First Half of 2014

Banco Popular Espanol S.A. reported earnings results for the first half of 2014. The company’s net profit for the first half of 2014 was EUR 129 million. As for revenues, it's important also to point to the good performance in return on financial trading, with the contribution of EUR 96 million in capital gains for the operation that was recently carried out about economic rights on certain pension saving products, as a consequence of the bank. Revenue generation has allowed to reinforce coverage of loans in the second quarter of 2014.

Banco Popular Ponders US Acquisition Targets

Banco Popular Espanol S.A. (CATS:POP) is analyzing three Florida-based banks as it looks to diversify outside of its home market in Spain, Cinco Días reported. Banco Popular's plan is to diversify and reduce the business' reliance on its home market in Spain so is now analyzing three possible acquisition targets in Florida, where Miami is said to be ripe for consolidation.
