Adjustable LDO from Diodes Incorporated Increases Design Flexibility

Diodes Incorporated introduced the AZ2085 adjustable LDO. Featuring a minimum load current of just 1mA, a maximum of 3A and an adjust pin current of only 6uA, this LDO regulator handles a far wider range of applications than alternative DC linear voltage regulators. The device's dropout voltage is typically 1.2V at the full 3A load current, supporting point of load duties with input voltages from 15V down to 2.5V. Applications which benefit from the device's improved minimum load currents and lower dropout voltage include motherboards, telecom equipment and STB power supplies. Output voltage is set using a pair of external resistors, with the AZ2085's ultra-low adjust pin current enabling designers to employ larger resistors without adversely affecting tolerance. Design flexibility is further enhanced by the device's compatibility with low ESR ceramic capacitors. With its maximum specification in load and line regulation of 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively, this TO252 packaged LDO offers designers a high degree of stability under extreme conditions of change in either input voltage or load. Integral current limiting and thermal protection circuits guard against excessive junction temperatures.

Diodes Incorporated Introduces the AP6550x and AP6540x

Diodes Incorporated introduced the AP6550x and AP6540x. Implementing a light load efficiency-improvement algorithm, these synchronous DC-DC buck converters achieve an efficiency as high as 96% while delivering continuous load currents of 4A and 5A, respectively. Their current mode control produces a fast transient response and simple loop stabilization, ensuring dependable line and load regulation in distributed point-of-load (POL) power management applications. By operating at higher fixed switching frequencies of 500kHz and 750kHz, these highly integrated converters are also able to help shrink circuit footprints by minimizing the size of external inductive and capacitive components. The 500kHz 4A-rated AP65402 and 5A-rated AP65502 provide an adjustable output voltage range of 0.925V to 16V, while the 750kHz equivalents, the AP65403 and AP65503, offer a higher range of 2.5V to 16V. A wide operating voltage range of 4.75V to 17V means the converters are suited for both 5V and 12V bus system design and all devices tolerate a transient peak voltage of up to 7A. Component packaging is the industry-standard exposed pad SO-8EP, with pin-outs identical throughout the product family. To help increase circuit reliability, the buck converters integrate a broad range of protection features, including thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout, over-voltage and current-limit protection. A capacitor-programmed soft-start function is also provided to control inrush current and output voltage overshoot.

Diodes Incorporated Introduces the ZXRE330

Diodes Incorporated introduced the ZXRE330. This 3.3V shunt voltage reference helps achieve improvements in both stability and power consumption for portable instrumentation and battery-powered equipment such as notebook computers. Pin-compatible with industry-standard parts, the ZXRE330 is offered in surface-mount SOT23 and through-hole TO92 package options. With a typical temperature coefficient as low as 20ppm/C, this precision micropower device provides highly stable performance across an industrial operating temperature range of -40 C to +85 C. Output voltage tolerance is tight: +/-2% at +25 C for the ZXRE330E and +/-0.5% at +25 C for the ZXRE330A. The ZXRE330's low power performance is a result of its very low knee current of 1uA typical with excellent performance maintained over the device's full operating current range of 2uA to 5mA. The ZXRE330 reference has also been designed to be highly tolerant of capacitive loads and requires no output capacitor. In addition, its low output noise performance of 55uV(RMS) ensures a clean output from 10Hz to 10kHz.

Diodes Incorporated Introduces the AL8812 DC-DC Converter

Diodes Incorporated introduced the AL8812 DC-DC converter. This device, which features boost, buck and voltage-inverting modes, co-packages a 60V, 3.6A-rated power N-channel MOSFET with all primary functions required by a DC-DC controller into the compact DFN6040-12 dual exposed-pad package, enabling a reduction in form factor of MR16 LED lamp circuits. With a 6mm x 4mm footprint and an off-board profile of just 0.6mm, the AL8812 converter is comprised of a temperature-compensated reference, a comparator, a controlled duty cycle oscillator with an active current limit circuit, a driver and a high-current output switch. The AL8812 features an input voltage range of 3V to 20V and an output voltage that is fully adjustable up to 60V. This wide operating voltage range makes the device suitable for medium-voltage LEDs and 12VAC lighting applications, as well as dimmable MR16 LED lamps. Shut-down current is very low at less than 0.01uA, typical, and its maximum output switch current is 3.6A. The converter is able to deliver very accurate voltage and current control by incorporating a precision reference with a 2% tolerance. By combining the AL8812 with its AL8807A constant current step-down converter, Diodes Incorporated has produced a two-stage reference design for dimmable MR16 LED lamps that provides good transformer compatibility and low current ripple at a very reasonable BOM cost.

Diodes Incorporated Introduces Low-Noise 3W Mono Class-D Audio Amplifier

Diodes Incorporated introduced a low-noise 3W mono Class-D audio amplifier in the tiny QFN1515-9L package to support miniaturization of portable products such as MP3 players, tablets and smart phones. Providing two alternative pin-outs to help simplify board layouts, the PAM8013 and PAM8015 each measure just 1.5mm x 1.5 mm x 0.75mm and use a filterless output architecture to minimize the number of external components and total PCB footprint. The amplifiers provide audio system designers with a differential input and assure low noise performance, high PSRR and good THD+N figures. Output power capability is high as well, providing 3W for a 5V supply into a 4 speaker. The devices feature a wide 2.8V to 5.5V supply voltage operating range to support a variety of different battery cell configurations. With an efficiency as high as 90% and a shutdown current less than 1uA, the amplifiers help maximize system battery life. To protect the amplifiers from any harmful circuit excesses, they integrate short-circuit protection with auto recovery, over-temperature protection and under-voltage lock-out circuitry.
