DaVita to Treat Thousands in Saudi Arabia

DaVita, a division of DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. announced it has signed a major tender from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health to treat half of the approximately 10,000 dialysis patients currently under the Ministry's care. Under the award DaVita will operate as many as 80 centers and is undertaking a substantial recruitment effort to attract new clinical and administrative teammates from within Saudi Arabia and across the world. DaVita will also be a prime resource to the Ministry of Health in identifying ways to prevent kidney disease within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
DaVita HealthCare Partners Reaches $389 Million Settlement with Government

DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. is finalizing a $389 million criminal and civil settlement agreement with the federal government concerning a 2010 anti-kickback investigation into its joint venture agreements. The company noted that when completed, the settlement would end a four-year investigation by the Denver U.S. Attorney’s office, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The company also noted it will also enter into a corporate integrity agreement, appoint an independence compliance monitor and impose certain business restriction on its joint venture arrangements with nephrologists. Federal prosecutors have alleged that medical centers in several of DaVita’s joint ownership ventures in were sold to Denver nephrologists at prices grossly below market value to ensure that the doctors’ kidney patients were directed to the DaVita-owned facilities.
