Carpathia and Equinix Launch the Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure
Jul 15 14
Carpathia and Equinix, announced the Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure. Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure is a hybrid cloud offering that allows enterprises direct access to the Microsoft Azure public cloud via Carpathia-managed platforms and the Equinix Cloud Exchange, which enables companies to meet stringent security requirements and industry standards such as HIPAA, SOX and GLBA. The Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure provides high-speed, direct access to Microsoft Azure via Carpathia-managed platforms and the Equinix Cloud Exchange, located in Equinix International Business Exchange(TM) (IBX(R)) data centers. The Equinix Cloud Exchange is an advanced interconnection solution that enables on-demand access to multiple clouds and multiple networks. By leveraging the Equinix Cloud Exchange, the Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure's hybrid cloud model offers improved security, better control, improved performance and higher throughput versus connecting through the public Internet. The differentiated Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure architecture is suited for a variety of high performance workloads and applications including compliant solutions, data analytics, business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR), as well as development and testing. Carpathia is collaborating with long-time partner Equinix to deliver the Starter Kit for Microsoft Azure solution to enterprise and government customers.
Equinix Brings Secure, Scalable, Reliable Storage to the Cloud
Jul 15 14
The EMC/Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute/Equinixsolution, now available for deployment in Equinix International Business Exchange(TM) (IBX(R)) data centers, can end those concerns without forcing compromise. It brings private storage to the public cloud by enabling businesses to build a hybrid cloud that maximizes their existing infrastructure, while delivering the efficiencies and flexibility of public cloud technology. The addition of EMC to the cloud ecosystem inside Equinix data centers expands the options available through the Equinix Cloud Exchange, software-defined connectivity platform that allows companies to make multiple connections to multiple clouds from multiple sites. With near real-time provisioning of cloud services and dynamic bandwidth allocation, the Equinix Cloud Exchange makes connecting to the cloud as simple, elastic and convenient as the cloud itself. Through the Exchange, companies can pick from the data center selection of IaaS, SaaS and managed IT services, empowering them to connect to the clouds they want and adjust their portfolio of cloud services as business requirements change. The combined EMC/Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute/Equinix solution completely bypasses the public Internet, bringing storage and applications into close proximity inside Equinix data centers. The close proximity of EMC storage to Microsoft Azure via ExpressRoute in an Equinix IBX data center ensures improved application performance over the public Internet. The result is highly compliant, highly scalable storage that will run like it's in an on-premises cabinet with low latency. The difference is, it will be running in an enterprise-grade cloud environment. By establishing a private connection between enterprise-grade storage and cloud compute, companies eliminate key barriers to hybrid and public cloud adoption, including data security and unpredictable network performance and latency.
Equinix, Inc. and NetApp Expands Their Cloud Partnership
Jul 15 14
Equinix, Inc. and NetApp announced that they are expanding their cloud partnership. The two companies now provide an expanded offering of private storage solutions for the public cloud including NetApp Private Storage for Microsoft Azure, through the Equinix Cloud Exchange, which makes connecting to the cloud simple and convenient. As part the announcement, Equinix and NetApp delivered test results revealing that data throughput between NetApp Private Storage customers and Microsoft Azure rose by an average of 36% when the two services were connected via the Equinix Cloud Exchange instead of via public networks. These tests illustrate significant performance gains companies can achieve when accessing multiple cloud and IT services inside Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX(R)) data centers. Additional results from NetApp's testing of the Equinix Cloud Exchange can be found in the Equinix blog: NetApp, Microsoft and Equinix Deliver Secure, Scalable Hybrid Cloud with Private Storage. By deploying NetApp Private Storage in Equinix data centers with Equinix Cloud Exchange, enterprises place data next to AWS and Microsoft Azure to combine the elasticity and cost benefits of public cloud compute with performance availability and control of private NetApp storage and data management. Key facts: The Equinix Cloud Exchange can dynamically connect NetApp Private Storage customers to multiple public clouds. This automated provisioning, combined with advanced service orchestration, greatly simplifies the process of interconnecting enterprise storage resources to cloud services, slashing connection times from days or even weeks to minutes. The 36% gain in storage throughput was determined by comparing the performance NetApp users experienced via ExpressRoute and Equinix Cloud Exchange to the throughput speed of sending data via VPN over the public Internet. The positive results from NetApp's testing suggest that customers can more confidently explore multi-cloud deployments to handle large, complex workflows more efficiently. Tests were performed in labs within Equinix data centers in Washington, D.C. and Silicon Valley that physically house NetApp private storage arrays, as well as Microsoft ExpressRoute access points, thereby minimizing latency in the tests' outcome. Equinix was the first data center company to offer Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, which provides direct, private connections to Microsoft Azure cloud services. Businesses can access cloud services through the Equinix Cloud Exchange in 16 markets globally-Amsterdam, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Silicon Valley, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto and Washington D.C. with expansion planned to a total of 19 markets by the end of 2014.
