Exar Corporation Announces Executive Changes

Exar Corporation announced a number of important organizational changes and expansion of executive responsibilities. These strategic moves will streamline new product development and enhance focus on high-value growth opportunities. Parviz Ghaffaripour, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Component Products, now has expanded responsibilities to include all of company's component IC product lines. He will manage the Power Management, Connectivity and High-Performance Analog business. Mr. Ghaffaripour joined Exar in May of 2013 and has over 29 years of experience leading the development of analog mixed signal solutions and building profitable growth businesses. Most recently as the CEO of Akros Silicon, Mr. Ghaffaripour held senior management positions at Advanced Analogic Technologies (Acquired by Skyworks), Maxim, and National Semiconductor. Craig Lytle was named Senior Vice President of System Solutions. This business unit is a consolidation of the Stretch line of video processing solutions and the Exar Data Compression and Security product lines. With this new focus, Mr. Lytle is well suited to lead the development and marketing of these high-value system chips, board, and software solutions. Mr. Lytle joined Exar in January of 2014 as part of the Stretch acquisition, and brings over 20 years of experience in the development and marketing of complex SOC, software, and FPGA solutions. Robert K. Beachler was named to the new position of Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Business Development, reporting to Mr. DiNardo. In this role, Mr. Beachler is responsible for marketing communications, public relations, and aiding corporate business development activities. Mr. Beachler joined Exar through the Stretch acquisition, where he was Vice President of Marketing, Operations, and Systems Design for the past 7 years.
Exar Corp. Unveils Family of Half Duplex RS-485 Transceivers

Exar Corp. has announced a family of half duplex RS-485 transceivers reportedly optimized to operate over a 2.8V to 5.5V supply voltage range. The wide operating range makes these transceivers ideal for isolated applications where the remote devices are powered through the cable. The XR33032/5/8 wide supply transceivers can tolerate significant voltage drop along the cable resistance and still maintain compliant RS-485 output levels and performance, even with a 2V voltage drop in the cable (when utilizing a remote 5V power supply). The XR3303x product family offers +/-18V Fault Tolerance for direct shorts to DC or AC, +/-70V Transient Protection, and exceeds the higher ESD rating of IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4. These rugged features remove the need for additional protection components, allowing system designers to increase the reliability of isolated industrial networks, remote meter reading, process control and monitoring, GSM/GPRS modules, building automation, HVAC control, and security systems.
Exar Corporation Introduces a New Line of High-Power Switching Regulators

Exar Corporation introduced a new line of high-power switching regulators to add to its popular PowerBlox(TM) family of DC-DC converter products. The XR76108, XR76112 and XR76115 are Synchronous Step Down Regulators supporting point-of-load (POL) supplies of 8A, 12A and 15A, respectively. The XR761xx family is designed to achieve excellent transient response and output accuracy using Exar's proprietary emulated current mode Constant On-Time (COT) control loop. These devices deliver core voltage rails for ASICs, FPGAs, DSPs and Network Processors in communications, networking and industrial markets. The XR761xx family is specified with a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 22V and delivers an adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to 18V. With its exceptional 0.1% line regulation across the entire input voltage range and 1% output accuracy over full temperature range, XRP761xx provides increased headroom to engineers for easier design implementations. The emulated current mode COT control scheme has the fast transient response of conventional COT control loops without any of the compromises. Exar's COT control loop enables operation with ceramic output capacitors, eliminating loop compensation, which simplifies system design and reduces overall component count. Additionally, the XR761xx offers a host of supervisory and protection features for proper sequencing, safe operation under abnormal operating conditions and light load operation.

Product availability and pricing: The XR33032/5/8 are available in industry standard 8 pin NSOIC packages. The suggested retail price is $1.65 in 1,000 piece quantities.
Exar Corporation Introduces the XRP7720 quad-output

Exar Corporation introduced the XRP7720 quad-output, synchronous step-down, universal PMIC, which has the ability to be programmed to meet the needs of nearly all systems. In development, an I(2) C interface allows Exar's PowerArchitect(TM) design and configuration software to quickly optimize the power system performance. Configurable parameters and functions include: output voltage, full feature up and down sequencing, fault behavior, GPIO functionality and control loop parameters. All are re-configurable through the use of on board FLASH memory. During qualification, the system engineer has access to the full suite of Power(XR) capabilities such as re-configurability, real time dynamic control, and telemetry. Design verification testing can proceed far more rapidly through the leveraging of software with the power system. Once system qualification is completed, the additional cost of the I(2) C interface and FLASH can be eliminated when dynamic control, telemetry and monitoring are not required in the project. High volume production XRP7720 product is hard programmed by Exar, providing a customized PMIC. If the customer finds the re-configurability, dynamic control, and monitoring of value in the end product they can easily migrate to the pin compatible full featured XRP7724.
