FARO Technologies Inc. Releases Newest Version of Laser Scanning Software, SCENE 5.3

FARO Technologies Inc. announced the release of their newest version of laser scanning software, SCENE 5.3, and scan data hosting-service, SCENE WebShare Cloud 1.5. FARO's SCENE 5.3 software, for use with the Laser Scanner Focus(3D) X Series, delivers scan registration by eliminating artificial targets, such as spheres and checkerboards. Users can choose from two available registration methods: Top View Based or Cloud to Cloud. Top View Based registration allows for target less positioning of scans. In interiors and in built-up areas without reliable GPS positioning of the individual scans, target less positioning represents a highly efficient and largely automated method of scanning. The second method, Cloud to Cloud registration, opens up new opportunities for the user to position scans quickly and accurately, even under difficult conditions. In exterior locations with good positioning of the scans by means of the integrated GPS receiver of the Laser Scanner Focus(3D) X Series, Cloud to Cloud is the method of choice for target less registration. In addition, the software also offers various new processes that enable the user to flexibly respond to a wide variety of project requirements.

FARO Technologies Inc. announced the release of FARO CAM2 Measure 10.3, its newest software for the FaroArm, FARO ScanArm and FARO Laser Tracker. CAM2 Measure 10.3 offers a complete contact and non-contact metrology solution. The new capabilities and enhanced functionality provide customers the value of having a single partner, with an integrated software and hardware solution, that is supported by a worldwide service network. CAM2 Measure 10.3 can be used with all of FARO's major metrology hardware, such as the FARO ScanArm for CAD-to-Part analysis, and is perfectly suited for tasks such as the inspection of free and complex forms and even soft or flexible materials that are difficult to inspect with a tactile system. New features such as Cross Section Analysis, Point Cloud Registration, Deviation Markers and the enhanced Live Color Scan, support and boost user experience in data collection and point cloud analysis. These new capabilities simplify and accelerate the measurement process by guiding operators in their probing and scanning activities.

FARO Technologies Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 29, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported income from operations of $6,960,000, income before income tax expense was $6,817,000, net income of $4,976,000 or $0.29 diluted per share on total sales of $73,374,000 against income from operations of $5,702,000, income before income tax expense was $5,602,000, net income of $4,574,000 or $0.27 diluted per share on total sales of $65,370,000 for the same period a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities of $823,000 against net cash provided by operating activities of $10,273,000 for the same period a year ago. Purchases of property and equipment was $2,124,000 against $256,000 for the same period a year ago. Payments for intangible assets was $419,000 against $494,000 for the same period a year ago.
