Honda Motor Co. Develops New Safety Support Device
Oct 24 14
Honda Motor Co. announced that it has developed a new safe-driving assistance system that helps avoid collisions with vehicles and pedestrians. The system, called Sensing, consists of a millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera. When there is a risk of collision with a vehicle in front, the system provides the driver with audio and visual warnings. When the distance gets closer, it automatically brakes. When the system forecasts a collision with a pedestrian as a result of the vehicle straying from the lane, it provides audio and visual warnings and turns the steering wheel toward the other direction. The system will first be installed in a new version of the Japanese automaker's Legend luxury sedan expected to hit dealerships late 2015. Honda's move comes as global automakers are racing to develop safe-driving support systems as the core of next-generation automotive technology.
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Launches Fifth Recall of Fit Hybrid
Oct 23 14
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. reported to the transport ministry that it will recall a total of 425,825 vehicles in Japan, including 163,896 units of the hybrid version of its Fit subcompact car, due to faulty ignitions and other problems. It is the fifth time for the Fit Hybrid to be recalled since it was launched in September 2013. Other models subject to the recall include the hybrid version of the Vezel sport-utility vehicle and the N-WGN mini vehicle. The vehicles to be recalled were manufactured between June 2013 and this month. Although there have been 649 reports of problems since October 2013, no accident has been reported. Wires for the equipment to eliminate electrical noise in the ignition coil can melt and cause overheating, Honda said, adding that electrical noise can affect devices that turn on the lights on the driver's dashboard and cause engine failure. Honda issued recalls for the Fit Hybrid in October and December 2013, and in February and July this year due to control computer glitches and other problems. The four previous recalls affected a total of 240,000 units. This latest recall is the third for the Vezel Hybrid, which shares the same basic structure as the Fit Hybrid, following recalls in February and July 2014.

Oct 21 14
Honda and Acura, will each be unveiling new models at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Honda's all-new HR-V compact crossover is to make its North American debut Nov. 19. The all-new subcompact crossover is based on Honda's tidy Fit hatchback. Serving as an entry-level model, the HR-V will slot below the brand's immensely popular CR-V in Honda's crossover lineup. The automaker hasn't announced what will power the HR-V, but it's likely the vehicle will use the Fit's 130-horsepower, four-cylinder engine and CVT gearbox. It will also share the Fit's Magic Seat setup inside the cabin, allowing users to move and fold the rear seats easily in a wide range of configurations for hauling gear and cargo. Acura revealed only a shadowy image of the redesigned 2016 ILX, but expect subtle upgrades that refine the current car's design, including the beak-like chrome grille. The automaker has been making similar adjustments throughout its car and crossover lineup.
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. to Begin Sales of Rechargeable Electric-Powered Blade Snow Thrower Yukios e (SB800e) in Japan
Oct 14 14
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that it will begin sales of a rechargeable electric-powered blade snow thrower, Yukios e (SB800e), in Japan in mid-November 2014 through Honda power products dealers (including authorized Honda agricultural power products dealers, home centers and motorcycle dealers.) The easy-to-operate Yukios e is designed for quiet and speedy snow removal for household use or for small-sized parking lots or other facilities. Yukios e was developed based on an existing Yukios (SB800) model, a gasoline-powered blade snow thrower that removes snow by pushing and piling it up to the side. Outstanding quietness and ease-of-use, which only an electric-power model can provide, were pursued through the adoption of a rechargeable battery and DC brushless motor for the power unit. Yukios e is easily recharged through a household electric outlet and yet features the class-topping snow removal capability among electric-powered snow throwers in the market, making it suitable for novice users and for residential area snow removal during the early-morning and nighttime hours. Key features of Yukios e (SB800e): Pursuit of the customer's piece-of-mind and ease-of-use, Easy and smooth operation for starting-up: The user only needs to push the key in and turn the power switch from the 'off' position to 'on. The Yukios e can be operated only with the drive lever and speed-change lever, therefore even a novice user can use it fully without confusion. Yukios e will start moving forward when the user applies a gentle squeeze to the drive lever, and it stops when the user lets go of the lever. Detailed speed adjustments are possible by changing the angles of the grip on the drive lever. The blade can be lifted up and put down lightly and easily with the up-and-down operation of handles. The vertical angle of the blade also can be adjusted easily. Recharging of the battery is also easy. The user connects an easy-to-handle/easy-to-carry dedicated battery with a large-sized handgrip to the recharger and plugs into a household electric outlet (100V). For each recharging, Yukios e will gain duration of approximately one hour. The recharging takes approximately 6 to 12 hours (time required for recharging varies depending on the temperature of the environment where recharging is done). The user can check the remaining battery level on a three-lamp LED indicator light located near his/her hand. Quietness unique to electric-powered snow thrower: Yukios e realizes outstanding quietness unique to an electric-power model, making it easier for the user who needs to remove snow in early-morning or nighttime hours or in a residential area. Outstanding snow removal capability: When it is fully charged, Yukios e is capable of removing snow form an area approximately 250m2 (equivalent to a parking area for approximately 16 cars). A chamfered scraper attached at the bottom of the blade reduces the friction between the blade and the ground surface, enabling smooth snow removal. Side plates, adopted for both sides of the blade, increase an ability to cut into the snow and reduces the amount of snow left behind. Design concept: Adopting a white head cover designed to pursue a smart form with a low center of gravity, the exterior design of Yukios e expresses a sense of ease and friendliness as an easy-to-operate snow thrower.
