Justice Shirley Kornreich of the New York Supreme Court in Manhattan cast doubt over New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's lawsuit accusing Barclays Plc of fraud in relation to its dark pool operation. Kornreich reportedly said the claims have 'fatal flaws' but did not rule on Barclays' request to dismiss the lawsuit before trial. This is a fraud claim and there are absolutely no specifics in this complaint, Kornreich reportedly said, adding that she found the complaint confusing and conflated.

Barclays Appoints Michael Gapen as Chief US Economist

Barclays PLC has appointed Michael Gapen as chief US economist. Mr. Gapen will lead the US economics
research team and will report to Christian Keller, head of economics research. Prior to taking on this role, Mr. Gapen was a Senior US Economist at Barclays, responsible for the firm's outlook for the US economy and, in particular, US monetary policy and the effect of financial markets on the economy. He will continue with these responsibilities in his new role. Mr. Gapen
joined Barclays in 2010 from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, where he was Section Chief responsible for monetary and financial market analysis. Prior to that, he served as an Economist with the International Monetary Fund.
Barclays PLC Opens a New Entrepreneurial Hub in Manchester

Barclays PLC revealed that its chief executive Antony Jenkins has opened a new entrepreneurial hub in Manchester. Aimed at inspiring and nurturing entrepreneurs and start-ups, the Manchester Escalator, located at 231 Deansgate, is a new collaborative space which is run by the bank and Central Working, which is expected to tap into the high growth business sector in Greater Manchester. The Escalator has two meeting rooms for up to 12 people which feature wide screen TVs and VOIP conference phones along with 20 co-working seats, multiple break out areas and chill out spaces as well as an onsite coffee shop and free WiFi. Membership is said to be open to professionals from the finance, technology, social enterprise, education, healthcare and gaming industries and it is expected to bring the growing Central Working business club to the city.

Barclays has appointed Norson Harris as a Director in the bank's Global Investments and Solutions Trust (GI&S Trust) division in Jersey. In his new role, Norson will focus on building and maintaining the existing complex fiduciary relationships with Barclays' clients based in Europe, the Middle East and Far East. He has over 25 years of experience working in the international financial services industry as a fiduciary, company director and wealth manager. Norson's previous roles include director of The Charlesworth Group, and Founder and Managing Director of The Kensington Group.
