KEMET Corp. Announces the Release of Three New Tantalum Chip Capacitor Series

KEMET Corp. announced the release of three new series of tantalum chip capacitors: T488 Small Case Substrate Terminal MnO(2), T527 Facedown Polymer, and T529 Small Case Substrate Terminal Polymer. As mobile circuit designs continue to demand a wider range of high performance miniaturized capacitor solutions, KEMET is now releasing these new series to meet these demands. These products are ideal for use in densely populated circuits, such as smart phones and digital cameras, where space restrictions do not allow for larger and more commonly available case sizes. These miniaturized solutions offer the high capacitance values (22uF to 220uF) available in both a standard 2012 (2.0mm x 1.2mm) and 3216 (3.2mm x 1.6mm) EIA case size with maximum package heights of as low as 1.0mm. In addition to offering a small footprint and low profile, advancements in counter-electrode technology and package design have resulted in the lowest ESR values available in the industry for these package sizes. These products offer a very competitive total cost solution in applications that benefit from the exceptional volumetric efficiency of these series. Typical markets include computer/consumer and telecommunications. These devices are well-suited for decoupling and filtering in DC/DC converters to reduce voltage drop in ultrabooks, as well as audio circuits and power management of IC-s in tablets and smart phones. These series complement KEMET's T528 capacitors.

KEMET Corporation Launches New Line of Industrial Grade Safety Disc Capacitors

KEMET Corporation announced the release of the new Radial Through Hole Ceramic Safety Disc Capacitors. Safety Certified capacitors are classified as either X and/or Y capacitors. Class X capacitors are primarily used in line-to-line (across-the-line) applications. In this application there is no danger of electric shock to humans should the capacitor fail, but could result in a risk of fire. The class Y capacitor is primarily used in line-to-ground (line by-pass) applications. In this application, failure of the capacitor could lead to danger of electric shock. Typical markets include alternative energy, industrial/lighting, medical, and telecommunications. The Safety Disc capacitors complement KEMET's ERO610, ERK610, ERP610, KJY, KJN series, and FILM EMI suppression capacitors. Technical information: X1 /Y1: Voltage subclass: certified to withstand impulses up to 4KV (X1) and 8KV (Y1) respectively; X1 /Y2: Voltage subclass: certified to withstand impulses up to 4KV (X1) and 5KV (Y2) respectively.

Joseph D. Swann Not to Stand for Re-Election for KEMET Corp

KEMET Corp. announced that Mr. Joseph D. Swann, who is one of nine current directors, informed the company's Board of Directors on May 11, 2013 that he does not plan to stand for re-election at the company's Annual Meeting of Stockholders, which is scheduled to occur on July 25, 2013. As a result, the Board has elected to reduce the size of the company's Board from nine to eight directors, effective immediately following the Annual Meeting. Mr. Swann's decision not to stand for re-election is not the result of any disagreement with the company, and he will continue to serve as a director through the Annual Meeting.

KEMET Corp. Introduces First-to-Market High Temperature Multilayer Stacked Capacitors with an X8L Dielectric for Commercial & Automotive Applications

KEMET Corp. introduced its new KEMET Power Solutions High Temperature (KPS HT) multilayer stacked capacitors. KEMET's KPS HT Series devices with an X8L dielectric utilize a proprietary lead-frame technology to vertically stack one or two multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) into a single compact surface mount package. The two-chip vertically stacked device offers up to double the capacitance in the same or smaller design footprint, allowing for both component and board space reductions. Providing up to 10mm of board flex capability, KPS HT Series capacitors are environmentally friendly and in compliance with RoHS regulations. They are also capable of Pb-Free reflow profiles and provide extremely low ESR and ESL. Utilizing an X8L dielectric, these devices can provide reliable operation up to 150 degrees C and are well suited for high temperature filtering, bypass and decoupling applications. Typical markets include alternative energy, industrial/lighting, medical, telecommunications, automotive, and defense and aerospace. KPS HT Series stacked capacitors complement KEMET's extensive high temperature product portfolio, with capacitance solutions available for extreme temperature applications up to 260 degrees C. In addition to Commercial grade, Automotive grade devices are available and meet the demanding Automotive Electronics Council's AEC-Q200 qualification requirements.
