Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc. Announces Executive Promotions

Lionsgate Entertainment Inc. announced that it has promoted Jim Packer and Ron Schwartz to be co-heads of its worldwide home entertainment operations. They will continue to report to the company Co-COO and Motion Picture Group President Steve Beeks. Packer willkeep his current title and responsibilities as President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution while Schwartz will serve as President of the company Home Entertainment, and the two executives will jointly run the company’s nearly $1 billion-a-year worldwide home entertainment operations. Packer's promotion follows his recent signing of a new long-term agreement with the company. Schwartz entered a new long-term deal with the company last year and has been upped from his previous position as President & General Manager of the company Home Entertainment Sales & Distribution. Schwartz and Packer will both assume expanded responsibility for crafting the marketing strategies of the company’s Home Entertainment Group worldwide, maintaining the company's uniquely integrated focus on digital and physical media as well as planning and executing strategic initiatives to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the global home entertainment marketplace.

LIONSGATE Expands Miramax Home Entertainment Distribution Agreement with Addition of Packaged Media Rights to over 250 New Titles

LIONSGATE(R) has expanded its domestic home entertainment distribution deal with Miramax to include more than 250 additional titles, it was announced by Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate President and General Manager, Sales and Distribution Home Entertainment. The newly-expanded agreement builds on an existing distribution deal between Lionsgate and Miramax, first announced in early 2011, and brings the total number of Miramax titles available exclusively through Lionsgate via DVD, Blu-Ray, EST and Internet Video on Demand (VOD) to more than 700. New additions to the library include Robert Rodriguez's renowned From Dusk Till Dawn, iconic horror properties such as Dracula, The Faculty and franchise titles from The Prophecy, Halloween and Children of the Corn, prestige titles including Marvin's Room with Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep, The Shipping News starring Kevin Spacey and Julianne Moore, The Grifters, Her Majesty Mrs. Brown, The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, Dirty Pretty Things and Fresh as well as family titles including the Pokemon franchise, among others. The expanded agreement reflects Lionsgate's successful track record in distributing third party product from some of the most prominent libraries in the world, including Miramax, Studiocanal and A&E, as well as its own Lionsgate titles. Comprised of over 16,000 motion picture titles and television episodes, Lionsgate's prestigious and prolific library includes The Hunger Games and Twilight franchises, Divergent, Dirty Dancing, Now See Me, Monster's Ball, Crash, Rambo, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Reservoir Dogs, Mad Men, Weeds and Orange is the New Black. The first wave of Blu-ray and DVD titles to be released under the new deal will be timed for Halloween availability and includes From Dusk Till Dawn, The Faculty and Venom, along with key titles from classic franchises including Halloween, Prophecy, Children of the Corn, Wes Craven Presents Dracula, Hellraiser and The Crow collections.

Lionsgate Appoints Kerry Phelan Executive Vice President of Global Franchise Management and Strategic Partnerships

Lionsgate announced that in a move to continue building Lionsgate's global franchises and extend them into new lines of business, the company has named Kerry Phelan to the newly-created position of Executive Vice President of Global Franchise Management and Strategic Partnerships. She will report to Lionsgate Chief Marketing Officer Tim Palen. According to a release from the company, Phelan most recently ran Consumer Products & Licensing for DreamWorks Animation, where she significantly increased that studio's consumer products revenue.

Lionsgate announced the acquisition of distribution rights to The SMOSH Movie. The production was jointly financed by AwesomenessTV, founded and run by Brian Robbins (Varsity Blues, Smallville, Lionsgate's upcoming The Royals), and DEFY Media, a leading independent creator and distributor of digital content, in which Lionsgate has an equity interest.
