Mahindra & Mahindra Confirms the Launch of Three New Models in 2015
Nov 14 14
Mahindra & Mahindra confirmed that its plans to launch three new vehicles in 2015. The company will introduce two compact sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and a light commercial vehicle. The executive did not offer any more details about the new models to be launched, although one of the anticipated vehicles is the S101 compact SUV, which will compete with the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. In the past, company officials have indicated plans to launch the S101 in 2015. IHS Automotive's production forecasts support the view that the vehicle will be launched towards the end of 2015. The only other new vehicle scheduled from M&M in 2015 is the next-generation Xylo, according to forecasts. The next-generation Xylo could be trimmed to allow it to duck under the four-metre mark to make it eligible for lower excise duty rates, although the Xylo may not be a suitable candidate with a current overall length of 4.52 metres. The other compact SUV in question may be the U301 utility vehicle, which will be launched as a replacement for the Bolero SUV, albeit in the first half of 2016. With a current length of 4.17 metres, it is not likely to be a difficult engineering challenge for M&M to bring the Bolero down to four metres.
