ON Semiconductor Introduces All-In-One Auto Focus Controller for Smartphone Camera Modules

ON Semiconductor Corp. has introduced the LC898214XC Auto Focus Controller for camera modules in smartphones. This integrated solution features digital loop filter and provides fast, accurate auto focus convergence with temperature compensation, while consuming minimal power. The integrated constant current driver provides lower electro interference noise than competing solutions. In addition, the space-saving design enables thinner and lighter smartphones. LC898214XC integrates all functions for the closed auto focus driver, including digital logic as a closed auto focus control, Hall device as a positioning sensor, EEPROM for the storage of filter parameters and compensation data, and a constant current driver as an actuator driver. The closed auto focus system provides for more accurate auto focus control, while also lowering power consumption compared with open loop systems. The loop filter coefficients are adjustable via an I2C interface, allowing the device to be programmed for optimal convergence time when paired with various different actuators. These integrated features support a closed auto focus system, and can provide higher auto focus performance from one integrated circuit. LC898214XC is offered housed in a Pb-free, Halide-free WLCSP-8 package and is priced at $0.88 per unit in quantities for 4,000 units.
ON Semiconductor CCD Image Sensor Delivers Enhanced Performance for Intelligent Traffic, Surveillance, Medical Imaging and Industrial Inspection

ON Semiconductor is enhancing the charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensor portfolio recently acquired from Truesense Imaging with new technology that improves imaging performance for industrial applications. The new KAI-08051 Image Sensor provides improved light sensitivity, reduced read noise, and improved color accuracy compared to the previous generation device, expanding opportunities for 8 megapixel image capture in demanding imaging applications such as Intelligent Traffic, Surveillance, Medical Imaging, and Industrial Inspection. The KAI-08051 Image Sensor shares the same advanced 5.5 micron pixel architecture, 8 megapixel resolution, 15 frame per second readout rate, and 4/3 optical format as the existing KAI-08050 Image Sensor, but improves key performance parameters through the use of an improved amplifier design, newly optimized microlens structure, and new color filter pigments in both Bayer and Sparse color configurations. The KAI-08051 is backward compatible with the KAI-08050, requiring at most minor modifications to the firmware used in existing camera designs. This allows the new image sensor to retain "Plug-and-Play" interoperability with the full family of 5.5-micron Interline Transfer CCD devices, enabling a single camera design to support image sensors ranging in resolution from 1 to 29 megapixels. The KAI-08051 Image Sensor is now in production and is available in Monochrome, Bayer Color, and Sparse Color configurations. An evaluation kit is available that allows the imaging performance of this new device to be quickly and easily examined in detail without the need to develop a full camera design.

ON Semiconductor Releases Highly Integrated, Low Power Hart CMOS Modem IC for Industrial Communications

ON Semiconductor has expanded its family of modems targeted at highway addressable remote transducer (HART) industrial communication implementations. With this latest product introduction, ON Semiconductor, who recently became a member of the HART Foundation, now offers solutions for low power HART applications. The new NCN5193 single-chip CMOS device supports Bell 202 shift frequencies between 1200 hertz (Hz) and 2200 Hz, and is capable of delivering a 1200 bit per second (bps) half-duplex data rate. With a built-in power amplifier, a 17-bit sigma-delta digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and an extremely responsive watchdog mechanism, it presents engineers with a very sophisticated HART solution that is both cost-effective and space saving. It has a voltage range of 3 volt (V) to 5.5 V and draws only 190 microamps (uA) while in standby mode with the system clock running (76 uA with no clock). In order to keep its power budget to a minimum, the receive circuitry is disabled during transmission phases and, likewise, the transmit circuitry is disabled when the IC is in the process of receiving. The modem IC has an operational temperature range that spans from -40degC to +85degC, allowing it to be deployed in industrial environments. Thanks to the high level of integration offered by the NCN5193, only a small number of external component parts are required. The NCN5193GEVB evaluation board, which includes all external components necessary for operation, helps to ease the design of HART implementations using the NCN5193. The NCN5193 is offered in a compact, Pb-free, 32-pin QFN package and priced at $2.31 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities.

The 2014 Annual Meeting of Stockholders for ON Semiconductor Corporation was held on May 21, 2014. At the meeting the Company's stockholders approved an amendment to the Amended and Restated Certificate of Incorporation of the Company, to declassify the board of directors over a three year period and to remove the prohibition against action by written consent of the stockholders.
