United Continental Holdings, Inc. Announces Executive Changes

United Continental Holdings, Inc. announced that Greg Hart will be named executive vice president and chief operations officer, succeeding Pete McDonald, who is retiring after nearly 45 years with United. In his new position, Hart will be responsible for airport operations, cargo, technical operations, network operations, flight operations, inflight service, safety and food services. Hart previously served as United's senior vice president of technical operations. He earlier held the role of senior vice president network.

United Continental Holdings, Inc. has officially opened its new widebody aircraft maintenance hangar at Washington Dulles International Airport. The airport is a major United hub and the airline's principal gateway to the Middle East. it invested nearly USD 45m to construct the facility, which will enable the airline to perform maintenance on two widebody or several narrowbody aircraft simultaneously. More than 600 area construction workers helped build the 125,000-square-foot hangar, which includes 85,000 square feet of enclosed aircraft space. United has maintenance hangars at its hubs in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and is nearing completion on another widebody hangar at Newark Liberty International Airport.

United Airlines reported consolidated operational results for the month and year to date ended October 2013. For the month, consolidated traffic (revenue passenger miles) of 16,966,554,000 compared to 16,457,701,000 a year ago. Passenger load factor was 81.9% compared to 82.9% a year ago. Available seat miles were 20,704,307,000 compared to 19,844,050,000 a year ago. Onboard passengers were 11,702,000 compared to 11,411,000 a year ago. Cargo revenue ton miles were 196,399,000 against 205,193,000 a year ago.
For year to date, the company reported consolidated traffic (revenue passenger miles) of 172,954,413,000 compared to 174,076,231,000 a year ago. Passenger load factor was 83.8% compared to 82.7% a year ago. Available seat miles were 206,367,291,000 compared to 210,538,538,000 a year ago. Onboard passengers were 116,804,000 compared to 118,597,000 a year ago. Cargo revenue ton miles were 1,810,837,000 against 2,063,954,000 a year ago.
