Unum Group's Colonial Life business Announces Executive Changes, Effective July 1, 2014

Unum Group has announced the retirement of Randall Horn as president and CEO of its Colonial Life business, in the first quarter of 2015. Timothy Arnold, currently senior vice president of sales and marketing for Colonial Life, will become president on July 1, 2014. Randall Horn is stepping down from his role as president of Colonial Life effective July 1, 2014, while remaining CEO until Dec. 31, 2014. Horn, who joined Colonial Life in 2004, will remain actively involved at the company until his retirement, as he transitions his operating responsibilities to Arnold. Arnold previously served as Colonial Life's chief operations officer after joining the company from Unum US in July 2011. During his more than 29 years with the company, he has held leadership positions in Underwriting, Corporate Planning, Client Services, Sales and Benefits. He serves on the board of directors for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.

Michael J. Passarella to Retire from the Board of Directors of Unum Group

Effective at the end of the day on May 20, 2014, Michael J. Passarella will retire from the Board of Directors of Unum Group in accordance with the company's bylaws, which impose a mandatory retirement age of 72.

Unum Group Announces Increase in Quarterly Dividend

Unum Group announced that its board of directors has authorized an increase of 14% in the quarterly dividend paid on its common stock. The new rate of 16.5 cents per common share, or 66 cents per share on an annual basis, will be effective with the dividend expected to be paid in the third quarter of 2014. The new quarterly dividend represents a 120% increase from the 7.5 cents per share the company was paying in 2007 and marks the sixth consecutive year in which Unum has raised its dividend.
