ViaSat Inc. Introduces a Ka-Band Shipset

ViaSat Inc. is introducing a Ka-band shipset with a tail-mounted antenna designed to deliver high-performance Ka-band mobile services for general aviation. The Aero Mobile Terminal 5230 (AMT-5230), already in use on government aircraft, can bring unprecedented levels of service performance to large-cabin business aircraft. For an office-in-the-sky experience with high-speed internet and VPN, Ka-band for general aviation can meet the growing demand for high-volume, on-board data consumption and transmission, including numerous wireless devices running high-bandwidth applications simultaneously. The AMT-5230 is expected to be available through ViaSat MRO and completion center resellers beginning in June 2015.

ViaSat Inc. developed a hybrid shipset designed to deliver high-performance mobile services worldwide over both the Ku and Ka frequency bands, enabling an aircraft to connect to the best service available depending on its location. The terminal, designed for transport-size commercial and VIP aircraft, enables a high-performance, high-speed service level to every person or device connected for personal entertainment and office-in-the-sky applications. The GAT-5320 shipset provides operators with access to aviation's newest satellite connectivity technology, meeting the expectations for a premium experience for dozens of passengers on an aircraft and multiple aircraft in the same air-space. The fuselage-mounted terminal integrates these ViaSat components: Single antenna system with separate Ku and Ka apertures that can automatically connect with the best available ViaSat service for global roaming, including the same Ka aperature used on the JetBlue and United fleets. Baseband systems for both Ku- and Ka-band satellite services. New, single radome for the combined Ku/Ka antenna.

ViaSat Inc. Wins $54 Million for MIDS JTRS Development

ViaSat Inc. has been awarded $54 million from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) for co-development and qualification of Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT) capabilities for the Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS). The MIDS JTRS joint development by ViaSat and Data Link Solutions is part of the U.S. government program to provide a migration path from the MIDS-LVT terminal to a certified, reprogrammable, software-defined radio architecture for tactical data links. The order was awarded under the MIDS Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract initially executed in March 2010 and recently expanded to a higher ceiling amount to accommodate additional awards. Link 16 MIDS is a line-of-sight radio system for collecting and transmitting broadband, jam-resistant, secure data and voice across a variety of air, sea, and ground platforms.
ViaSat Inc. Announces Next-Generation L-Band Managed Service Terminals

Customers are beginning to place advance orders for next-generation Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) terminals from ViaSat Inc. for operation over the recently announced ViaSat worldwide L-band network. The orders, totaling 3,150 terminals, include a mix of both fixed-site machine-to-machine and airborne units that are scheduled for delivery next year. Vehicular, maritime, and asset tracking terminals are also available for advance order. As previously announced, the company is providing an upgrade to MSS networks by using an innovative new L-band waveform optimized for high capacity. The technology leverages ViaSat experience in serving the U.S. government, enterprises, and consumers with highly secure, reliable, and rugged satellite-based global services. By using bandwidth more efficiently, the new satellite technology brings a number of performance improvements to MSS customers: High capacity, Integrated security, Broadcast and multicast, Low latency, Netted voice and Guaranteed availability.
