Walgreen Company and Johns Hopkins Medicine or JHM have opened a new store in Baltimore, Maryland. The store project is a joint effort to bring new health and wellness programs and other health care services to the surrounding community, furthering the partnership between Johns Hopkins and Walgreens to explore the development of new models for improving overall patient care. The new Walgreens "Well Experience" store offers health services, as well as healthy food options and a full selection of other daily living products.

Walgreen Co. announced sales results for the month, year to date and first quarter ended November 30, 2013. For the month, the company reported sales of $6.07 billion, an increase of 4.1% from $5.83 billion for the same month in fiscal 2013. Total front-end sales increased 3.2% compared with the same month in fiscal 2013, while comparable store front-end sales increased 1.9%.
Calendar 2013 sales to date were $66.54 billion, an increase of 4.3% from $63.80 billion in 2012.
For the quarter, the company's total sales were $18.35 billion, up 6.0% from $17.32 billion in last year's quarter. Comparable store sales for the quarter increased 5.5%, while front-end comparable store sales for the quarter increased 2.2%.

Walgreens has decided to increase the number of stores selling Kerasal Neurocream(TM) in U.S. from approximately 1,000 to 7,000 stores. Walgreens is the drugstore chain in the U.S. and the increased distribution is an important step towards establishing this innovative product in the marketplace. Kerasal Neurocream TM was launched in September 2013 and sales are off to a good start. The added distribution means that Kerasal Neurocream has full distribution at major retailers Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and Rite-Aid, bringing the total store count to more than 21,000.
Walgreens Debuts Nation's First Net Zero Energy Retail Store in Evanston, Ill

Sporting two wind turbines, nearly 850 solar panels and a geothermal system burrowed 550 feet into the ground, Walgreens announced the official opening of what is believed to be the nation's first net zero energy retail store, anticipated to produce energy equal to or greater than it consumes. Located at 635 Chicago Ave. in Evanston, Ill., the store opens to the public at 11 a.m., Nov. 21, following store tours for invited guests by the Walgreens sustainability team and a ribbon cutting by Walgreens executives, government dignitaries and sustainability advocates.

Walgreens announced the appointment of Sona Chawla, president of e-commerce, as president of digital and chief marketing officer. In this new role, Chawla will lead a newly created Digital and Marketing Division, establishing a unified and integrated digital, enterprise-wide marketing, and customer loyalty and insights group to advance the company's 'Well Experience' strategy and vision to be the first choice in health and daily living in America and beyond. Chawla, as president of digital and chief marketing officer, will lead the new Digital and Marketing Division that combines three existing groups e-commerce, corporate marketing and customer loyalty and insights that have significantly advanced Walgreens Well Experience strategy. Chawla joined Walgreens in July 2008 as senior vice president of e-commerce and was promoted to her current position in January 2011. The company also announced that Graham Atkinson, senior vice president and chief marketing and customer experience officer, is retiring at the end of January 2014.
