Initial product distribution began in mid-April at leading Walgreens locations near Augusta, Ga. Walgreen Co. announced the official opening of its newest store, located at Powell and O'Farrell streets in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square neighborhood. The store, which will open at 10 a.m. May 8, features an extensive collection of innovative offerings and services unexpected from a drugstore. This expanded store is tailored to reflect the uniqueness of San Francisco, at a location where Walgreens has been present since 1946. The store's expanded features include: A LOOK Boutique beauty department featuring dozens of prestige and niche cosmetic, skincare and hair care brands not typically found in drugstores. As part of it, Britain's leading skincare and cosmetics brand No7, created by Boots, will be available. No7 is well known for its internationally acclaimed range of anti-aging beauty serums, all independently scientifically tested. Specially-trained beauty advisors are on hand to offer guidance finding the best solutions for individual needs. Expert BROW shaping and grooming services will be available at the Ramy Eyebrow Bar. Hundreds of fresh food items including produce and high-quality, on-the-go meal options such as wraps, sandwiches and salads made fresh daily. A Coca-Cola Freestyle machine dispensing 130 varieties of Coca Cola fountain drinks. Several flavors of self-serve frozen yogurt accompanied by an enticing toppings bar. An Upmarket Café offering a barista preparing fresh brewed premium coffee and espressos. Local, freshly baked goods also are available. A juice and smoothie bar featuring fresh fruits and vegetables included in distinct recipes. A robust selection of beer, wine and spirits and quality products appropriate to celebrate special occasions. iMemories and Walgreens announced the availability of iMemories in Walgreens locations nationwide. The agreement between iMemories and Walgreens creates the single network of retail locations in the country offering comprehensive home movie transfer services. In addition, iMemories' cloud-based platform will enable customers to store, view and share their home movies in their entire duration and full resolution from virtually any device screen.

Walgreen Co. reported sales results for the month and year-to-date ended April 2013. The company reported April 2013 sales of $5.98 billion, an increase of 3.8% from $5.76 billion for the same month in fiscal 2012. Total front-end sales decreased 2.9% compared with the same month in fiscal 2012, while comparable store front-end sales decreased 4.3%. Customer traffic in comparable stores decreased 5.9% while basket size increased 1.6%.
Calendar 2013 sales to date were $24.07 billion, an increase of 2.7% from $23.44 billion in 2012. Fiscal 2013 year-to-date sales for the first eight months were $48.10 billion, down 1.0% from $48.59 billion in the comparable period in fiscal 2012.
