These include the BC Premier's Advisory Council on Science and Technology, the American Mathematical Society, the Computing Research Association, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Canadian Mathematical Society. She founded and was Director of the EGEMS project. She was a Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University from 2003 to 2006. She was elected as a Fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery in 1995, and received the Vancouver YWCA Women of Distinction Award in Science and Technology in 1997 and in 2001, she was recognized with the Wired Woman Pioneer Award, Canadian New Media Educator of the Year, BC Science Council Champion of the Year. Her awards in 2003 included a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Alberta and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Waterloo. She has an Honorary Doctorate from Ryerson University. Dr. Klawe received her PhD in 1977 and BSc in 1973 in Mathematics from the University of Alberta.
