Dr. John Seely Brown, Ph.D. serves as an Industry Advisor of Diamondhead Ventures. Dr. Brown serves as Technical Advisor at Rearden Commerce, Inc. He served as the Chief Scientist of Xerox Corporation from 1992 to April 2002 and Corporate Vice President of Xerox since 1990. Dr. Brown served as a Director at the Polycom, eCatalystOne, NorthStar, Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) from 1990 to June 2000, a position he held for 12 years. His personal research interests include digital culture, ubiquitous computing, Web service architectures and organizational and individual learning. He is a Member of the National Academy of Education. He also serves as a Fellow at American Association for Artificial Intelligence and of AAAS. He was a Trustee of Brown University, In-Q-Tel, and the MacArthur Foundation. Dr. Brown served as an Executive Producer for the award winning film “Art • Lunch • Internet • Dinner”. He received the 1998 Industrial Research Institute Medal for outstanding accomplishments in technological innovation and the 1999 Holland Award in recognition of the best paper published in Research Technology Management in 1998. He was awarded the Harvard Business Review's 1991 McKinsey Award for his article, “Research that Reinvents the Corporation” and the 2002 award for his article “Your Next IT Strategy” (with John Hagel). In 1997, he published Seeing Differently: Insights on Innovation (Harvard Business Review Books). The Software Development Forum additionally presented Dr. Brown with a 2002 Visionary Award. He co-authored the acclaimed book “The Social Life of Information” (HBS Press, 2000) which has been translated into nine languages. He has published over 100 papers in scientific journals. His next book “The Only Sustainable Edge: Why Business Strategy Depends on Productive Friction and Dynamic Specialization” was published in the spring of 2005 by Harvard Business School Press. In 2000, Brown University awarded Dr. Brown, an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree that was followed by an Honorary Doctor of Science in Economics conferred by the London Business School in 2001. He holds a Ph.D. degree from University of Michigan in Computer and Communication Sciences and a BA degree from Brown University in Mathematics and Physics. He is Member of New Media Advisory Board of Audax Health Solutions.
