Ms. Gaines has been a Director of Fannie Mae since September 2006 and rejoined in the same position in December 2008. She serves as Director of Northern Illinois Gas Company and Nicor Gas Company. She serves as Director for the March of Dimes and Economic Club of Chicago. Ms. Gaines serves on the Boards of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boys and Girls Clubs, Junior Achievement and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. She served as a Director of CNA Financial Corporation. since October 27, 2004. She served as a Director of Nicor Inc. from April 2006 to 2011. In 2002, Fortune Magazine recognized her as one of the "Most Powerful Black Executives in America," and Black Enterprise Magazine included her as one of its "Top 50 Blacks in Corporate America." She served as a speaker and panel member in various RiskMetrics certified courses, including those with a focus on audit committees. Ms. Gaines studied B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and MA in Public Administration and M.P.A. from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
