He has been a Member of the Board of Managers of Spansion LLC (formerly, FASL LLC), a subsidiary of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. since July 2003. Dr. Ruiz serves on the Board of Trustees of Rice University. He has been a Trustee of The RAND Corporation since June 2009. He served as a Director of Spansion Inc. from November 2005 to September 20, 2007 and Eastman Kodak Co. from January 2001 to May 13, 2009. He served as an Executive Director of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. from 2000 to March 2009. He serves on the President's Council of Advisors for Science and Technology (PCAST). He is actively committed to education and serves on the Foundation Advisory Council for the College of Engineering at the University of Texas. He was appointed to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in 1999. Dr. Ruiz earned a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin before earning his Doctorate in Electronics from Rice University in 1973.
