He served as Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Vivendi Universal (VU) from 2001 to 2002, where he was responsible for internal Audit and managed integration of the global finance function following multiple Vivendi acquisitions. Prior to VU, he served a number of executive positions at The Seagram Company Ltd. including Controller, Vice President and Assistant Treasurer from April 2000 to August 2000. He served as Chief Accounting Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance of Seagram Co. Ltd. since September 1, 2000, where he led successful corporate overhead reduction initiatives and managed a global shared services group with centers in North America and Europe. At VU and Seagram, he played key roles on the Vivendi/Seagram acquisition and related integration, the Seagram purchase and integration of Polygram Records, the sale of Tropicana to Pepsi and the Seagram acquisition of Universal Studios. His experience covers all areas of Corporate Finance including mergers and acquisitions, shareholder relations, strategic planning, budgeting and reporting and SEC matters. Prior to Seagram, he served as a Partner in the accounting firm of PriceWaterhouse, where he started his career in 1983 and served there until 1996. At Price Waterhouse, he had been responsible for a number of multinational accounts including Westinghouse/CBS and Seagram. He served at Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corporation. He has been an Independent Director of Aristotle Holding, Inc. (formerly Express Scripts, Inc.) since January 2009. He has been a Director for Express Scripts Holding Company since January 2009. He is a Member of the Financial Executives Institute, AICPA and the New York State Society of CPA's. Mr. Mergenthaler has a B.S. from Providence College, where he graduated in 1983.
