He left Gary Works in 1997 and served as a Vice President of operations of a joint-venture partnership, USS/Kobe Steel Company in Lorain, Ohio. Since 1999, he served as an Executive Vice President and General Manager of hot rolled bar operations of Republic Technologies International. Mr. Babcoke returned to U. S. Steel in 2001, when he was appointed as general manager of Gary Works. Mr. Babcoke holds a Master's Degree in Management from National Louis University and a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management from Calumet College.
