Currently, he serves on the Board of Trustees of Tufts University, Punahou School, Santa Fe Institute, and Omidyar Foundation and is a Commissioner of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. He served as Director of MeetUp Inc. As an extension of Omidyar Network's activities in microfinance, in 2005, Mr. Omidyar gave $100 million to Tufts University to create the Omidyar-Tufts Microfinance Fund and founded the Ulupono Initiative. Mr. Omidyar and Ms. Pam Omidyar also dedicate their time, energy, and resources to three additional family philanthropies: HopeLab, Humanity United, and Ulupono Initiative. To support local efforts at home, in 2009 they committed $50 million to the Hawaii Community Foundation. He holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Tufts University.
