He is an assistant Attending Physician ... at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. He serves as Chairman of Medical Advisory Board of Atlas Therapeutics Corporation. He has been a Director of Atlas Therapeutics Corporation and MYOS Corp. since July 2011. He has been Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Genaera Corp., since September 10, 2007. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of ZafGen, Inc. and Manhattan Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Aronne has had a long and distinguished career of obesity research and treatment; his research focuses on the nervous system's response to weight changes. He has lectured extensively on obesity, and is widely published in numerous respected scientific and medical journals. He is the author or co-author of 8 leading textbook chapters on obesity, as well as the best selling book Weigh Less, Live Longer. As a clinical investigator for both sibutramine and orlistat, Dr. Aronne has been directly involved in the clinical development of the two major, currently-available pharmaceutical treatments for obesity. He is President of the Obesity Society (formerly NAASO). He was a Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Fellow at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He edited the NIH Practical Guide to Obesity Treatment, has served as a consultant for the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission, and advised the Veterans Health Administration on their MOVE weight management program. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 papers and book chapters and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies. Dr. Aronne is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Diabetes Association, and the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, where, as Chairman of the Development Committee, he developed the Practical Guide to the Identification, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in Adults, in conjunction with the National institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He is a Council Member and Chairman of the Public Affairs Committee of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity. He has won several awards for teaching during his career including the Davidoff Prize from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Eliot Hochstein Award from Weill-Cornell Medical College. He is a Phi Beta Kappa Graduate of Trinity College, where he received a B.S. in Biochemistry in 1977. He was awarded the M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 1981. Dr. Aronne completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1984.
