Dr. Fuchs is primarily involved in the field of virtual reality in medicine through his work in three-dimensional biomedical imaging, and his research in head-mounted displays. He is one of the inventors of the Pixel-Planes family of high-performance graphics engines. He has been a Director of Ardea Biosciences, Inc. since November 2001. He has been a Director of Mirati Therapeutics, Inc. since February 2012 and MethylGene Inc. since February 2, 2012. He serves as a Member of Technical Advisory Board of Mersive Technologies, Inc. Dr. Fuchs serves as a Member of Scientific Council of Thomson S.A. (Alternative name is Technicolor SA). Dr. Fuchs served as an Independent Director of Anormed Inc. since April 21, 2006. He served as a Director of Intrabiotics Pharmaceuticals Inc. since November 2001. Prof. Fuchs is a Federico Gil Professor of Computer Science University of North Carolina. Dr. Fuchs has received several prestigious awards, including the 1992 Computer Graphics Achievement Award from ACM/SIGGRAPH and the 1992 National Computer Graphics Association Academic Award. In 1997, he was awarded with the Satava Award at the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Conference. In 1997 he was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Fuchs received an M.D. degree from George Washington University and a B.A. degree in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University. He received Ph.D. in 1975 from the University of Utah.
