Ms. Mary E. Peters served as the National Director of Transportation Policy Consulting of Henningson, Durham and Richardson Inc. (HDR, Inc.) since November 2005. Prior to joining HDR, Ms. Peters served as Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation from 2001 to 2005. She served as president of Mary Peters Consulting. She served as the U.S. 15th Secretary of Transportation from September 30, 2006 to January ... 2009. She was a key proponent of the Federal surface transportation reauthorization bill known as SAFETEA-LU. She has been Director of ADOT since 1998. She serves as a Trustee of The RAND Corporation. She serves as a Director of Henningson, Durham and Richardson, Inc. She serves as a Member of Advisory Board for U.S. Federal Business at Accenture plc. She served as a Director of National Railroad Passenger Corporation. She chaired the Highway Expansion Loan Program Advisory Board. Ms. Peters has been active in Arizona, serving on the board of directors for the Arizona Quality Alliance, Women Executives in State Government, and Project Challenge. She was a Member of the Greater Arizona Development Authority as well as the Governor's Diversity Advisory Council. She served on the board of Directors for the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, chaired the Standing Committee on Planning and the Asset Management Task Force for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and served as a Member of the AASHTO 2001 Reauthorization Steering Committee. She received the 2004 National Woman of the Year Award from the Women's Transportation Seminar, a national organization of transportation professionals. Ms. Peters was recognized as the Most Influential Person in Arizona Transportation by the Arizona Business Journal. She is an avid Motorcyclist. Ms. Peters holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix and attended Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government Program for State and Local Government Executives.
