Sonia Perez has been President of Louisiana at AT&T Inc. since March 3, 2010. Ms. Perez served as Senior Vice President of External Affairs for Texas at AT&T Inc. since April 2, 2006, and also served as its Director of sales for Idaho since December 2009. Ms. Perez served as Senior Vice President for External Affairs at SBC and was responsible for its initiatives in Houston and South Texas. She served as SBC General Manager for South Texas. She serves as a Director of ... Greater Houston Partnership. She serves on the board of the Texas Senate Hispanic Research Council and is also President-Elect of the Texas Exes, the alumni association of The University of Texas at Austin, where she has also served as treasurer. Ms. Perez completed work as part of The University's Commission of 125, charting the course of The University in this century. Her University involvement also includes having served as vice-chair of the Dean's Advisory Council for the College of Communication. She served for six-year term on the national board of the Public Broadcasting Service, and was the first woman elected president of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce. In 1996, Ms. Perez received a Presidential appointment to the Advisory Council of the Border Environmental Cooperation Commission, helping develop solutions to environmental concerns in the U.S./Mexico border region. In 1993, she also received a gubernatorial appointment to the board of the Texas Dept. of Commerce. Ms. Perez was the founding president of the McAllen Communities-in-Schools program, and is past Chairman of the Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement (VIDA), an innovative program designed to assist others in training for high-skill jobs. She has extensive experience in raising funds for community and church initiatives. Ms. Perez recently co-chaired a successful capital campaign which raised $6.5 million for the Museum of South Texas History where she has served as board chair. She has been recognized for her contributions to the community. The Muscular Dystrophy Association of the Rio Grande Valley named her its Humanitarian of the Year for 2002. In 2001, The University of Texas at Austin named her an Outstanding Young Texas Ex. Ms. Perez has also been recognized as a Zonta Shining Star 2002, McAllen's Woman of the Year 2000 and in 1995, she was named Rio Grande Valley Mother of the Year. Ms. Perez graduated with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin in 1978, earning a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Bachelor of Arts in psychology from San Francisco State University.
