Background*

Dr. Peter R. Orszag has been the Chairman of the Financial Strategy and Solutions Group at Citigroup, Inc. since February 25, 2013. Dr. Orszag served as Senior Consultant of Competition Policy Associates, Inc. Dr. Orszag served as Vice Chairman of Global Banking business of Citigroup, Inc. since December 9, 2010 until February 28, 2013. Dr. Orszag served as Director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), supervising the agency's work in providing objective, nonpartisan, ... and timely analyses of economic and budgetary issues. He previously served as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy at the White House, as Senior Economist and Senior Adviser on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, and as an economic adviser to the Russian Government. His areas of expertise include fiscal and tax policy, Social Security, pensions, higher education, macroeconomics, and homeland security. He has also founded and subsequently sold an economics consulting firm. Dr. Orszag co-founded Competition Policy Associates, Inc. in 2003 and serves as its Founding Director. He served as Deputy Director of Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution. He also served as Director of the Hamilton Project and Director of the Retirement Security Project. Dr. Orszag is the Joseph A. Pechman Senior Fellow in Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution and Co-Director of the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute. He is co-editor, with Jeffrey Frankel, of American Economic Policy in the 1990s (MIT Press: 2002), coauthor of Protecting the American Homeland: A Preliminary Analysis (Brookings Institution Press: 2002), and coauthor of Saving Social Security: A Balanced Approach (Brookings Institution Press: 2004). He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Sciences and the Council on Foreign Relations. He has been Director of Peter G. Peterson Institute for International Economics since March 13, 2012. He has been a Director of Partnership for Public Service since April 2011. He serves as Trustee of The Mount Sinai Hospital. From 2007 to 2008, he served as Director of CBO. Before joining Citigroup in January 2011, he served as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and a contributing columnist at the New York Times. He is also a contributing columnist at Bloomberg View and an adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Prior to CBO, Dr. Orszag was the Joseph A. Pechman Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution. He has been the co-author or co-editor of several books including Protecting the Homeland in 2006, Aging Gracefully: Ideas to Improve Retirement Security in America in 2006, Saving Social Security: A Balanced Approach in 2004, and American Economic Policy in the 1990s. Dr. Orszag graduated summa cum laude in Economics from Princeton University and obtained a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, which he attended as a Marshall Scholar.
