He held that position until 1993 and served as its Group Vice President of finance and regulatory relations, and later Executive Vice President of energy delivery and customer service for Houston Lighting & Power Company, the electric utility predecessor of CenterPoint Energy's Houston-area operations. Mr. McClanahan served as a Comptroller of Houston Industries Inc., predecessor to CenterPoint Energy since 1986. Mr. McClanahan served as Group Vice President, Finance and Regulatory Relations of HL&P from 1993 to February 1996 and as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of KBLCOM from 1991 to 1993. Before the restructuring, he served as Vice Chairman of Reliant Energy from October 2000 to September 2002. He served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Reliant Energy's Delivery Group from 1999 to September 2002. Since September 30, 2002, he served as the President of the electric utility division of Reliant Energy. Since 1972, Mr. McClanahan has held a variety of positions at Reliant Energy and its predecessors and subsidiaries including positions in Information Systems, Accounting, and Finance. He served as the Chairman of NRG Texas, LLC (formerly Texas Genco Holdings Inc.), an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of CenterPoint Energy since January 2003. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of ERCOT and Chairman of the University of St. Thomas. He has been a Director of CenterPoint Energy Inc., since September 2002; Centerpoint Energy Resources Corp. since 2002 and CenterPoint Energy Inc. since September 2002. He serves as a Director of Greater Houston Partnership and the American Gas Association. Mr. McClanahan served as a Director of HL&P since 1996. He serves on the Boards of the Interstate National Gas Association of America, and the Houston Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, where he served as President, Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. He served as the sole Director of Texas Genco from its formation in August 2001 to December 2002. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. He is a Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of CPAs and Houston Chapter of CPAs. Mr. McClanahan holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with honors from the University of Texas and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston.
