Background*

Dr. Stephen C. Suffin, MD served as a Vice President of Quest Diagnostics Inc. and served as its Chief Laboratory Officer since March 2009. Dr. Suffin was responsible for managing Quest Diagnostics's medical quality operations, including development of standard medical policies. Dr. Suffin assumed positions of increasing responsibility in medical operations during his decade-long career with Quest Diagnostics. He serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board of CNS Response, ... Inc. He served as an Interim Chief Laboratory Officer and Corporate Medical Director, Clinical Pathology at Quest Diagnostics. Prior to that, he held several senior medical-related positions with Quest Diagnostics's operations in California, including Director of Laboratory Operations and Medical Director. Dr. Suffin served as Chief Medical Officer of CNS Response, Inc. from 2000 to 2002. Dr. Suffin has an extensive background in computers, statistics, and software beginning with his development work on the IBM 360 operating system. Originally trained as an immunopathologist he worked at the Laboratory of Infectious Disease at the National Institute of Health. Dr. Suffin was an Investigator at the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and consultant to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. He was Medical Director at Upjohn Clinical Labs and then at SmithKline Beecham Labs in Los Angeles and Quest Diagnostics for over 20 years. He has been Medical Director of a number of psychiatric hospitals and treatment centers. Dr. Suffin is a board certified psychiatrist who has served as the medical director of two psychiatric hospitals. Dr. Suffin continues his academic relationship at UCLA where he is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and Psychiatry. He served residencies in pathology at the UCLA School of Medicine, and in psychiatry at Sepulveda VA Medical Center and the UCLA School of Medicine. He is certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and has published more than 50 scientific papers. He began study of neuropsychiatry in 1982 and completed his residency in 1985. He received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), School of Medicine. He did his fellowship training in viral immunopathology at the UCLA School of Medicine. In addition to his medical training, he received a Certificate in Executive Management from the UCLA Graduate School of Management.
